I have made two types of thaumatrope, both started with two images on two circles, one had the images connected (A bird and a cage) which were folded so they were back to back and then the two papers tabs had two holes punctured into them, two elastic bands fed through and tied to the tabs and then you span it around with enough force to give the illusion of a bird in a cage. The other was two images glued to a wooden stick, back to back and spun around to give the same effect.
